Why we do this

The neighbourhood my children inherit is made of ordinary decisions. What gets burned on the street. What gets thrown in a skip. Who gets trained properly, and who doesn't. I want mine to add up to something.

Every home in this country is going to have to stop burning things. That's not in doubt; the only question is whether it's done well, and by whom.

I wanted work I could stand behind. Heating homes cleanly is that work: it takes gas out of the street my children walk down, it cuts what people pay to be warm, and it doesn't ask the natural world to absorb the difference.

It also needs people. There aren't enough of us who can do this properly, and there won't be unless someone trains them. So I train apprentices. That's not a side project — it's the part of the job most likely to matter in twenty years.
