Warm is something you feel, not a number on a thermostat

(01) Why it feels different

A boiler heats in bursts: hot, off, cold, hot again. Your body registers every one of those swings even when the thermostat says the room hasn't changed.

A heat pump works the other way — lower temperatures, larger surfaces, running gently and continuously. Weather compensation means the system reads the outside temperature and adjusts before you feel it. The room stops swinging. Most people describe it as the house being evenly warm for the first time.

Designing for that is most of the skill. It's why we size emitters to give their heat away slowly rather than fiercely, and why we spend a day tuning a system that already works.

(02) A drier house

An evenly warm house is a drier one

Continuous gentle heat keeps wall and window surfaces above the point where moisture condenses on them. Fewer cold surfaces means fewer of the damp patches that mould needs to establish. Lower, steadier humidity means fewer of the conditions dust mites need to breed — and it's mite droppings, not the mites themselves, that most people are actually allergic to.

None of that is a cure for a damp house. If there's a leak, or no ventilation, heating won't fix it, and we'll say so in your Heat Plan rather than after the invoice.

(03) The claim, plainly

But a house that's warm all the way through, all the time, at a price you can afford to keep paying, is a healthier building to live in than one heated in bursts and switched off when the bill arrives.
